IPPP UPDATE
Institution of Public Private Partnerships (IPPP) led by Chairman Walter Chan and Council Members (Kevin So, Bruce Wong, Elvis Li and Professor MW Chan) conducted a breakfast meeting with Tientip Subhanij, Chief of Financing for Development Section, Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) on 16 October 2019.
Ms. Subhanij advised that UNESCAP has established the Infrastructure Financing and PPP Network of Asia and the Pacific which aims at facilitating the exchange of experiences, disseminating knowledge, and building consensus regarding good practices on infrastructure financing through PPPs. This platform provides support to countries to develop infrastructure financing strategies and PPP projects that contribute to regional connectivity and sustainable development by (i) helping countries in the region gain an understanding of PPP concepts and alternative financing mechanism, and (ii) building up the capacity of decision makers to develop infrastructure regulatory frameworks, implement sustainable and resilient infrastructure policies, and showcase demonstration projects. The Network aims to create a knowledge base to consolidate existing information on PPP institutions, project pipeline, investment demand, and market environment in the region.
UNESCAP has organized the 1st Meeting of Infrastructure Financing and PPP Network in September 2018 in Guiyang, China, the 2nd Meeting in August 2019 in Manila, Philippines and the 3rd Meeting in September 2019 in Ningbo, China. ESCAP has expressed interests for IPPP to co-organize the 4th Meeting in Hong Kong in 2020.
IPPP is looking into the feasibility of co-organizing the 4th Meeting with potential supporting organizations. The UNESCAP Infrastructure Network Brochure is attached for information.
